Neurodiversity-Affirming Care Built on Lived Experience and Clinical Rigor
About Our Mission to Provide Neurodiversity-Affirming Care
Neurokin exists to provide neurodiversity affirming care that respects the complexity, strengths, and lived experience of neurodivergent individuals—without the constraints of insurance-driven medicine.
We believe neurodiversity is not something to "fix," but something to understand, support, and empower through thoughtful evaluation, diagnosis, and personalized care.
Our mission is to deliver compassionate, strengths-based ADHD and Autism evaluation and treatment through collaborative, patient-centered care.
We help neurodiverse individuals better understand themselves, move past years of masking and confusion, and access the support they deserve.
We are building a healthcare home where neurodivergent minds are validated and empowered to thrive on their own terms.

Defining Neurodiversity:
What It Is & Isn't
Neurodiversity is the foundational concept that neurological differences (such as ADHD, Autism, and dyslexia) are entirely natural, valuable variations of the human brain. It is the understanding that there is no single "right" or "normal" way to think, learn, process sensory information, or behave.
Crucially, neurodiversity is not a medical pathology, a list of broken deficits, or a disease that needs to be "cured." Instead, it is an affirming framework that recognizes both the profound cognitive strengths and the specific environmental challenges that come with having a differently wired brain.

Why We Exist
The Neurokin Mission
Neurokin’s mission is to dismantle the barriers of traditional care and deliver compassionate, strengths-based ADHD autism care through a collaborative, patient-centered neurodiversity evaluation. We exist to help neurodiverse individuals better understand themselves and access the support they have often been denied.
We believe that every person deserves an evaluation that is thorough, respectful, and grounded in radical affirmation rather than pathologization. We believe that diagnosis should be a conversation, not a verdict handed down from on high.
We believe that care should be continuous and longitudinal, not just a single, isolated appointment. And we believe that your neurodivergent mind is an essential part of who you are and is something to be understood and accommodated, not cured.
Our Core Values
Neurokin is guided by five core values that shape every clinical decision we make:
Affirm Neurodiversity
Neurodiversity is a natural variation of human experience, not a disorder to be erased. We recognize ADHD and Autism as meaningful ways of being, not simply a list of deficits.
For example, if you struggle with traditional organization, we don't label you as "lazy"; we help you find robust systems that actually work for your specific brain wiring.
Strengths-Based Care
We identify challenges and strengths simultaneously, recognizing how neurodiverse minds contribute immense value. We focus on understanding the whole person and their unique "operating system."
This means during your evaluation, we spend just as much time identifying your capacity for hyper-focus or creative problem-solving as we do discussing your executive function challenges.
Clinical Integrity Over Volume
We prioritize quality, depth, and continuity over insurance throughput. Your care is dictated by clinical judgment and your specific needs, never by billing codes or arbitrary time limits.
Instead of rushing you out the door after a 15-minute medication check, we schedule 2-to-3-hour comprehensive evaluations so you have the necessary time to truly share your story.
Patient-Centered Collaboration
Diagnosis is done with patients, not to them. You are an active partner in your care, and we treat your self-reflection as valid clinical data to be explored.
When reviewing your assessment results, we look at the data together and ask, "Does this resonate with your daily lived experience?"
Access Through Innovation
Neurokin uses technology as a medical accommodation. Our digital tools and thoughtful systems reduce the "healthcare admin" burden, making care easier to access and manage.
We utilize a fully integrated, secure patient portal so you can easily complete intake forms, message your clinician, and review your care plan at your own pace without facing executive function burnout.
How Neurokin Was Founded
A Practice Built on Lived Experience and Clinical Rigor
Neurokin was founded by Karina Campos, APN-C, a board-certified nurse practitioner with over a decade of deep clinical expertise in neurodevelopmental health. But Karina’s journey began with her own lived experience and with a perspective that fundamentally shaped her approach to clinical care.
Diagnosed with ADHD in her late 30s, Karina navigated the complex, often frustrating challenges of seeking a diagnosis as an adult. Soon after, her son was also diagnosed with ADHD.
Throughout her career working in traditional healthcare, Karina witnessed the limitations of insurance-driven medicine firsthand: rushed 15-minute appointments, symptom-focused diagnoses, and care models that simply did not honor the full complexity of the neurodivergent experience. She saw patients dismissed, misdiagnosed, or forced into treatments that didn't fit their needs.
This inspired her to create a different model. The Neurokin mission was born from a desire to build a practice grounded in a neurodiversity affirming philosophy, rigorous clinical standards, and a profound respect for the patient's lived experience.

Neurodiversity-Affirming Care
Our Philosophy
Neurodiversity affirming care recognizes ADHD, Autism, and other forms of neurodiversity as natural variations of human neurology rather than disorders to be fixed. It focuses on understanding, validation, and support rather than pathologization.
Traditional medical models often frame neurodiversity strictly as a problem to solve. They focus heavily on symptoms, deficits, and pushing the patient toward normalization.
A neurodiversity affirming philosophy takes a radically different approach. It honors neurodivergent identity, sensory needs, and lived experience. It supports self-understanding and self-advocacy. It recognizes that neurodivergent individuals have unique strengths and perspectives that contribute massive value to the world.
This approach is grounded in modern research. Studies consistently show that why neurodiversity affirming care matters is because it leads to better outcomes: improved self-understanding, drastically reduced shame and stigma, better treatment adherence, and an improved quality of life.
Traditional Medical Model vs. Neurodiversity-Affirming Model
Traditional Medical Model
Neurodiversity-Affirming Model (Neurokin)
Views neurodivergence as a pathology or disorder to be "cured."
Views neurodivergence as a natural, valuable human variation.
Focuses exclusively on deficits, symptoms, and behavioral limitations.
Focuses on identifying inherent strengths right alongside functional challenges.
Relies on forced normalization and demanding behavioral compliance.
Prioritizes self-advocacy, safe unmasking, and targeted environmental accommodations.
Diagnosis is handed down by an "expert" to a passive patient.
Diagnosis is a highly collaborative conversation exploring your lived experience.
Provides rushed, 15-minute, highly transactional medication appointments.
Provides unhurried, comprehensive evaluations allowing for deep, continuous understanding.

Why Neurodiversity-Affirming Care Works
Our approach extends far beyond a compassionate philosophy; it is deeply rooted in rigorous clinical evidence. Research consistently demonstrates that neurodiversity-affirming care leads to vastly superior patient outcomes. By actively rejecting the deficit model, our patients experience:
Improved Self-Understanding: You gain an accurate, medically valid vocabulary for your lifelong experiences rather than internalizing them as personal moral failures.
Reduced Shame and Stigma: Validating your neurotype drastically reduces the heavy burden of anxiety, depression, and chronic burnout associated with years of masking.
Better Treatment Adherence: When care plans are collaboratively built to align with your natural strengths instead of fighting against them, you are significantly more likely to utilize them sustainably.
Improved Quality of Life: Affirming care empowers you to fiercely advocate for your needs, secure appropriate accommodations at work or school, and build a life that genuinely works for your brain.

How We Deliver Care
Our Clinical Approach
Neurokin’s approach to adult evaluation is grounded in several key principles designed to remove "analysis paralysis" and provide clear answers:
Comprehensive Evaluation
We take the time to understand the full picture—your developmental history, current functioning, strengths, challenges, sensory profiles, masking habits, and environmental context.
Collaborative Diagnostic Evaluation
Diagnosis is a partnership. We ask questions, listen deeply, and involve you in the diagnostic formulation.
Strengths-Based Formulation
We identify patterns and capabilities alongside your challenges. We focus on understanding how your specific brain works.
Ongoing Support
Evaluation is the beginning, not the end. We provide a longitudinal clinical ecosystem with ongoing support, treatment planning, and care coordination.
Evidence-Based Tools
We use validated, objective assessment tools (such as QbCheck for ADHD and Creyos for cognitive assessment) to support our clinical understanding while maintaining the vital human connection that makes care meaningful.
What You Can Expect from Neurokin
Our Commitment to Patients
Every patient who trusts Neurokin with their care will experience our commitment to "The Neurokin Standard":
Respect for Your Neurodiversity: We honor your identity and lived experience. We do not try to make you "normal"; we support you in understanding yourself better. When you mention that fluorescent lights and loud environments are physically painful, we don't dismiss you as "too sensitive"; we actively validate your sensory profile and discuss practical accommodations.
Clear, Collaborative Evaluation: Your evaluation will be thorough, respectful, and grounded in understanding. You will never feel rushed or treated as a checklist. When completing your assessment, we don't interrogate you with a rigid checklist; we ask open-ended questions like, "Tell me what a typical workday feels like for you," to gather true, holistic clinical context.
Transparent, Private-Pay Care: We operate with "no-surprise" clarity. We are upfront about costs. Your care is guided by your needs, not by insurance authorization timelines. Before you ever sit down for an evaluation, you will know the exact cost of your care. You will never receive a surprise bill or a sudden insurance denial months later.
Support Beyond a Single Appointment: We provide ongoing support, medication management (where applicable), and care coordination. Your care is a continuous relationship, not an episodic transaction. After your diagnosis, we don't just hand you a prescription and disappear. We collaboratively build a roadmap that might include targeted lifestyle strategies, workplace accommodation letters, and scheduled follow-ups to ensure you are thriving.

Your Questions About Neurokin, Answered (FAQ)
What is neurodiversity-affirming care?
Neurodiversity-affirming care is a healthcare model that recognizes ADHD, Autism, and other neurotypes as natural, valid variations of human neurology rather than diseases or disorders to be fixed. It focuses on understanding your unique operating system, validating your experiences, and providing support that aligns with your goals rather than pathologizing your differences. It honors your identity and helps you build a life that works for your brain.
Why did Karina start Neurokin?
Karina, our founder, started the practice because she witnessed the profound limitations of traditional, insurance-driven medicine. Throughout her career, she saw neurodivergent patients dismissed, misdiagnosed, or forced into care models that ignored their lived reality. Her own late-in-life diagnosis with ADHD, and her son's subsequent diagnosis, solidified her commitment to creating a different model. Neurokin was built to be the practice she wished she had access to—one that is respectful, thorough, and grounded in deep understanding.
What makes Neurokin different from other ADHD and Autism providers?
Neurokin is distinct because we specialize exclusively in adult ADHD and Autism—this is our primary focus, not a side service. We operate from a deeply held neurodiversity affirming philosophy that views your brain as valuable. Our private-pay model ensures we have the time to provide incredibly thorough care without the constraints of insurance companies. We prioritize clear communication, rigorous professionalism, and a collaborative, patient-centered approach that treats you as the expert on your own life.
What does "strengths-based" mean in Neurokin's approach?
A strengths-based approach means we look at the whole picture of your neurology. Traditional medicine often only documents your deficits—what you struggle with or cannot do. While we absolutely address your challenges, a strengths-based model also identifies your capabilities, your hyper-focus areas, and your unique problem-solving skills. We believe that understanding what you are good at is just as medically important as understanding where you need support.
Is neurodiversity-affirming care evidence-based?
Yes, absolutely. Neurodiversity-affirming care is heavily grounded in current clinical research and psychological science. Studies consistently show that affirming approaches lead to significantly better patient outcomes: improved self-esteem, reduced anxiety and depression, better adherence to support strategies, and a higher overall quality of life. At Neurokin, we combine this affirming approach with validated, objective clinical tools (like QbCheck and Creyos) to ensure our diagnoses are both compassionate and clinically rigorous.
How does Neurokin's private-pay model support better care?
The private-pay model is what allows us to deliver the "Neurokin Standard" of care. It allows us to prioritize quality, depth, and continuity over high-volume patient turnover. Because we do not bill insurance, your care is guided strictly by clinical judgment, not billing codes. You receive longer appointments, deeper evaluations, and ongoing, meaningful support. You are never limited by insurance authorization timelines or arbitrary restrictions on your appointment length.
What is Neurokin's commitment to patient privacy?
Patient privacy and confidentiality are the bedrock of our practice. Neurokin maintains strict HIPAA compliance across all our systems and uses secure, encrypted communication channels for our patient portal and telehealth visits. We only share information with referring providers or outside parties when you have explicitly consented. We are fully transparent about how your data is protected.
How does Neurokin stay current with neurodiversity research?
Karina and the entire Neurokin clinical team stay current with neurodiversity research through continuous professional development, specialized certifications, and active participation in professional neurodevelopmental organizations. Furthermore, we stay deeply engaged with the neurodivergent community itself, ensuring that our clinical practice is informed by the actual lived experiences of the people we serve.
Does Neurokin work with insurance companies?
Neurokin operates exclusively as a private-pay practice and does not participate in any insurance networks (including Medicare/Medicaid). However, if you have out-of-network benefits, you may choose to seek reimbursement from your insurance provider. We are happy to provide the necessary documentation (a superbill) upon request to support your reimbursement efforts, though we cannot guarantee your insurance will cover the costs.
How can I get involved with Neurokin's mission?
There are several ways to support our mission. If you are seeking clarity, you can schedule an appointment to experience neurodiversity affirming care firsthand. If you are a healthcare professional, you can partner with us to refer patients who need specialized adult care. You can also follow Neurokin on social media to stay informed and help us advocate for neurodiversity affirmation in the broader healthcare system. We are building a movement, and we welcome your involvement.
