How We Work

A Collaborative, Neurodiversity-Affirming Approach to Adult Evaluation and Care

How we evaluate matters as much as what we diagnose.

Neurodivergent adults deserve care that's thoughtful, collaborative, and grounded in respect for lived experience — not rushed conclusions or checkbox-driven assessments.

Many of our patients come to us after feeling minimized in traditional medical settings. Our goal is to change that experience.

Our approach is grounded in neurodiversity-affirming principles, evidence-based practice, and genuine partnership. We don't process patients. We build relationships.

Diagnosis Is a Conversation, Not a Verdict

Our evaluation philosophy centers on understanding the whole person. We take time to explore your cognitive patterns, emotional experiences, strengths, challenges, and context before arriving at any conclusions.

In a traditional medical model, you might be a passive subject being analyzed. At Neurokin, you're an active participant in your evaluation. We're not here to label you or put you in a box. We're here to help you understand yourself more deeply — and to support your autonomy and agency.

The Neurokin Evaluation Process

Structured, but Never Rigid.

Every evaluation is personalized to your specific needs, but our process generally follows a comprehensive framework designed to ensure depth and accuracy:

Neurodiversity-Affirming Tools

We use assessment tools that validate difference rather than just cataloging deficits.

Evidence-Based Testing

When appropriate, we integrate objective testing to support our findings.

Collaborative Discussion

We explain our findings clearly and decide on next steps together.

Every component is designed to be validating, respectful, and clinically rigorous.

Evidence-Based Assessment Tools

Data That Supports Insight—Not Replaces It.

Neurokin integrates evidence-based assessment tools to support clinical understanding while honoring patient experience. We use technology to get a clearer picture, not to distance ourselves.

These tools provide objective data that enhances clinical judgment. They are one piece of the puzzle, not the whole picture. Your lived experience remains the most important data point.

Objective ADHD Testing — QbCheck

FDA-cleared computerized task that measures attention and impulse control. Used selectively when it would add useful data.

Cognitive Assessment — Creyos

Measures working memory, attention, executive function, and reasoning across ADHD, autism, AuDHD, and other contexts.

The Three-Visit Structure

Whether you're being evaluated for ADHD, autism, AuDHD, or migraines, the foundation is the same: three visits over three to four weeks, about five hours of clinical time, with one clinician across the entire process.

Initial Consultation & History

An in-depth conversation about your history, current experience, and what brought you here. ADHD evaluations get 60 minutes; autism and AuDHD evaluations get 90 minutes (the depth of developmental history needs the time).

Diagnostic Testing & Assessment

The assessment visit. Tools used depend on your specific case — QbCheck, Creyos, validated rating scales, structured interview tools. Tools support clinical judgment, never replace it.

Diagnosis & Care Plan Review

We sit together and review what we found. You receive an integrated diagnostic picture in plain language, a written care plan tailored to your profile, and time to ask every question that's come up.

Each visit is paid as its own appointment. No giant upfront cost. If something changes between visits, you're not locked into the full evaluation.

Strengths-Based, Neurodiversity-Affirming Care

We do not approach neurodiversity as a problem to fix.

Our strengths-based assessment approach means identifying capabilities alongside challenges, supporting autonomy, and helping you build strategies that align with your values and goals.

Your ADHD, autism, or AuDHD isn't something to be ashamed of or to "overcome." It's a fundamental part of who you are. Our job is to help you understand yourself more deeply and to support you in building a life that works for your brain — not to try to change your brain to fit a life that doesn't work for you.

Technology & Patient Experience

Modern Tools That Support Continuity of Care.

We use technology as a medical accommodation — to reduce friction and make care more accessible. Technology is here to make your care easier and more continuous, not to replace human connection. Our tools are designed to support your autonomy and keep you connected to your care team.

Neurokin offers a secure, branded patient portal and mobile app that allows you to:::

Why We Are Private-Pay

Care Without Insurance Constraints.

By operating outside of insurance networks, Neurokin offers longer appointments, deeper evaluations, and continuity of care that insurance-driven models often can't support.

Insurance companies often dictate appointment length (15-minute med checks), what tests can be ordered, and how often follow-up can occur. This conveyor-belt model is incompatible with adult neurodivergent care needs.

Our private-pay model lets us focus on quality, clarity, and patient-centered care. Your treatment is shaped by clinical need, not billing codes.

What to Expect

Transparency, Clarity, and Respect.

Patients can expect clear communication, transparent pricing, and thoughtful guidance throughout their care journey. We'll explain what we're doing and why. We'll answer your questions.

We'll be transparent about costs and what to expect at each step. We won't rush you or treat you as a checklist. We'll respect your time, your experience, and your autonomy.

You'll never feel like just another patient — because you're not. You're a partner in your own care.

Your Questions About How We Work, Answered

  • What is neurodiversity-affirming care?

Neurodiversity-affirming care recognizes neurodiversity (ADHD, autism, dyslexia, etc.) as natural variations of human neurology rather than disorders to be fixed or cured. It focuses on understanding, validation, and support rather than pathologization. Neurodiversity-affirming care honors neurodivergent identity, strengths, and lived experience. It supports self-understanding and self-advocacy rather than trying to make neurodivergent individuals "normal."

  • How is Neurokin's evaluation different from traditional ADHD/Autism assessment?

Traditional assessments often focus on deficits and symptoms, using a medical model that pathologizes neurodiversity. Neurokin's evaluation is grounded in neurodiversity-affirming principles, focusing on understanding the whole person—strengths, challenges, context, and lived experience. We take time for collaborative conversation rather than rushing through a checklist. We use objective tools to support clinical judgment, not to replace it. And we partner with you in understanding yourself, rather than diagnosing you in isolation.

  • What is the Neurokin evaluation process?

The Neurokin evaluation process includes comprehensive clinical interviews and history review, exploration of your lived experience across work, relationships, and daily life, neurodiversity-affirming assessment tools, evidence-based testing when appropriate, strengths-based interpretation, and collaborative discussion of findings and next steps. Every evaluation is personalized based on your unique presentation and needs.

  • How long does an evaluation take?

Evaluations at Neurokin are comprehensive and designed to allow adequate time for thorough assessment. Initial evaluations typically take 2-3 hours or may be scheduled across multiple appointments, depending on complexity. We prioritize depth and understanding over speed. You'll never feel rushed or treated as a checklist.

  • What assessment tools does Neurokin use?

Neurokin uses evidence-based assessment tools including objective ADHD testing with QbCheck (when appropriate) and cognitive and executive-function assessment with Creyos (when appropriate). These tools provide objective data that supports clinical understanding. We also use clinical interviews, observation, and discussion of your lived experience. Tools are one piece of the puzzle, not the whole picture.

  • Will I be diagnosed during my evaluation?

If a diagnosis is clinically appropriate and supported by comprehensive assessment, yes. However, the goal is not to diagnose you—it's to help you understand yourself. Some people come away with a diagnosis. Others come away with clarity that they don't have ADHD or autism, but may have other explanations for their experiences. Both outcomes are valid. The goal is understanding, not labeling.

  • What happens after my evaluation?

After your evaluation, you'll receive a comprehensive diagnostic report and a collaborative feedback session to discuss findings and what they mean for you. From there, you can decide what support aligns with your needs—whether that's ongoing care at Neurokin, referrals to other providers, or simply having clarity and validation for your experience.

  • How does Neurokin use technology in care?

Neurokin offers a secure patient portal and mobile app that supports continuity of care. You can complete assessments, schedule appointments, communicate securely with your care team, and access your care plans and recommendations. Technology is designed to reduce friction and support your autonomy—not to replace human connection.

  • Why is Neurokin private-pay?

Neurokin is private-pay because it allows us to operate outside of insurance constraints. Insurance companies dictate appointment length, what tests can be ordered, and how often follow-up can occur. Our private-pay model allows us to focus on quality, clarity, and patient-centered outcomes. Your care is guided by your needs and clinical judgment, not by billing codes.

  • How much does an evaluation cost?

Evaluation costs vary based on complexity and clinical needs. Detailed fee information is reviewed prior to scheduling so you can make an informed decision. We recommend contacting our team to discuss your specific situation and get a clear estimate of costs.
