Karina Campos, APN-BC
Founder & Lead Clinician, Neurokin
"My patients aren't problems to solve. They're
people who deserve to be understood."

About Karina
Karina Campos is the founder of Neurokin and the clinician you'll see across all three visits of any evaluation. She's an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (APN-BC), ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP), and DEA-licensed for full-scope prescribing in New Jersey and New York.
Karina has been working in the neurology field since 2006 — first as a bedside nurse for over a decade in hospital neurology settings caring for patients with severe cognitive and psychiatric conditions, then since 2015 as a nurse practitioner. That career arc — from bedside care through complex hospital neurology to specialty private practice — is rare among adult ADHD and autism providers, and it's part of why Neurokin's evaluations have the depth they do.
What changed her career direction was her own diagnosis. In her late 30s, after years of suspecting something but never quite finding the right framework, Karina was diagnosed with ADHD. Soon after, she recognized the same patterns in her two sons, both of whom were identified as AuDHD (autistic and ADHD). Her husband Rod has ADHD. ADHD runs in the family — and her clinical work since has been shaped by knowing what it's like to be on the other side of an evaluation, looking for someone who'll take your experience seriously.
Her practice today specializes specifically in adult ADHD, autism, AuDHD, and chronic migraines. She holds the ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider credential through the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), and a Certificate of Added Qualification in Headache Medicine from the National Headache Foundation.
Karina sees patients in person at the Westfield NJ office and the Midtown Manhattan office, plus telehealth across all five licensed states — New Jersey, New York, Washington DC, Florida, and California.

Why This Work
In Karina's words.

I came to ADHD evaluation late — like a lot of my patients. The clinician who finally diagnosed me did it the right way: she took the time, she asked the right questions, and she didn't dismiss the things I'd been told weren't real. That experience changed how I think about clinical work.
Adult neurodivergent patients have usually spent years being told their experience doesn't fit the textbook, that they 'don't seem' autistic or ADHD, that they're 'too successful' to have a real condition. By the time they get to me, they're often exhausted from advocating for themselves in healthcare settings that weren't built for them.
My job is to take the time to actually understand what's been going on — not just what fits a checklist. To map the strengths alongside the challenges. To explain things in plain language. To build a care plan that fits your actual life. And to keep showing up after the diagnosis, because the relationship is what makes the work matter.
I do this work because I've been on the other side of it. And because the people who finally get to a clinician who listens — that's the moment that changes things.

How Karina Practices
Time, then conclusions.
Every Neurokin evaluation includes about five hours of clinical time across three visits. Karina takes that time because adult ADHD and autism evaluation can't be done in 30 minutes. The depth is the work.
Specifics over generalities.
Karina's notes from your visits are detailed — not because of insurance billing requirements (we don't deal with that), but because the specifics of your experience are what build the actual diagnostic picture.
Strengths alongside challenges.
Most evaluations focus only on what's wrong. Karina maps both — what's hard, and what's working. Both inform the care plan
Plain language, always.
When Karina explains your diagnosis at Visit 3, she does it in plain English. Not jargon. Not rushed delivery. The clarity of the explanation is part of the care.
