Why Neurokin

Treatment that aims for fewer migraine days

Many people treat each attack as it comes. Over time, that can lead to more headaches, not fewer. We look at the whole pattern and build a plan to prevent attacks.

Treating attacks one by one

  • Guessing at triggers
  • More and more pain relievers
  • Risk of medicine-overuse headaches
  • No plan to prevent the next attack
  • No one tracking your progress

At Neurokin

  • A full headache evaluation
  • Help finding your triggers
  • Options to stop and prevent attacks
  • Botox for chronic migraine, when it fits
  • Follow-up visits to track your progress

How it works

Migraine care in three steps

  1. We listen
  2. We review your headache history, your triggers, and the treatments you've tried. Bring a headache diary if you have one.
  3. We make a plan
  4. We talk through options to stop attacks and to prevent them. For chronic migraine, that may include Botox.
  5. We follow up
  6. We track how you're doing and adjust your plan. Botox visits are quick, usually every 12 weeks.

Questions

Migraine questions, answered

Don't see your question? Call (908) 215-2331 or send us your question.

  • What is the difference between a migraine and a headache?

A typical headache causes mild to moderate pressure. A migraine is often throbbing and more severe, and it comes with other symptoms, like nausea or sensitivity to light and sound. It can last from 4 hours to 3 days.

  • What is chronic migraine?

Chronic migraine means headaches on 15 or more days a month for more than three months, with migraine features on at least 8 of those days.

  • Is Botox approved for migraine?

Yes. Botox is FDA-approved to help prevent headaches in adults with chronic migraine. It is not approved for people with fewer than 15 headache days a month.

  • How often do I need Botox?

Usually every 12 weeks. It can take a couple of treatments to see the full effect.

  • Can taking pain medicine too often make headaches worse?

Yes. Using pain relievers or migraine medicines too often can lead to more frequent headaches. Talk to us if you need them several days a week. Don’t stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

  • Where do you treat migraines?

In person at our Westfield, NJ office: 560 Springfield Ave, Suite I (2nd floor), Westfield, NJ 07090.

  • Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly with us.

  • What should I bring to my first visit?

Bring a list of the medicines you have tried, any past imaging or reports, and a headache diary if you have one.

  • When should I go to the ER for a headache?

Go now for a sudden, severe headache, or a headache with fever, stiff neck, confusion, weakness, numbness, trouble speaking, or vision loss.

  • How much does migraine care cost?

See our pricing page for current visit prices, or call us to talk about the cost of Botox treatment.
